What is Compostable?

PLA, or polylactic acid, is a natural plant-based bioplastic derived from renewable resources like cornstarch and sugar cane. PLA is both biodegradable and compostable and is an eco-friendly alternative to petroleum-based plastics.

Emerald™ Compostable cutlery is also BPA free. Bisphenol A (BPA) is a potentially toxic hormone-mimicking chemical used in some plastics and plastic sealants. 


What is USDA Biobased? 

A USDA Biobased product is identified as a product that is made up of primarily biological or agricultural materials. The USDA label assures consumers that the product contains a USDA-verified amount of renewable biological ingredients.

Better quality than plastic

I was surprised how thick and strong these spoons are. They don't bend or break like the budget plastic kind. And they're big enough that they fit in your hand more like a regular spoon. Amazing that they are plastic-free and compostable.
