What is Compostable?
A compostable product will breakdown over time into usable soil. Composting can be done at home or in a commercial composting facility.
What is PLA?
PLA, or polylactic acid, is a natural plant-based bioplastic derived from renewable resources like cornstarch and sugar cane. PLA is both biodegradable and compostable and is an eco-friendly alternative to petroleum-based plastics.
What is BPA Free?
Emerald™ Compostable Hot Cups are also BPA free. Bisphenol A (BPA) is a potentially toxic hormone-mimicking chemical used in some plastics and plastic sealants. BPA has also been found in the ink on newspapers and receipts, leading to the presence of BPA in recycled paper products.
What is Chlorine Free?
Emerald's pulp bleaching process uses Hydrogen Peroxide, a much safer alternative to elemental chlorine gas, making Emerald™ Products Chlorine Free.
What is PFAS Free?
Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) are a group of man-made chemicals that are often used in food packaging. These chemicals don't breakdown and can accumulate in the human body over time and lead to adverse health effects.
What is Water-Based Ink?
Emerald™ products are printed with water-based ink, which is an ink made up of water rather then plastic or PVC. Water-based ink is a great sustainable printing alternative.
